Omar H. Rahman is a writer and political analyst specializing in the Middle East and American foreign policy. His work has been published in The Washington Post, Foreign Policy, Rolling Stone, The Guardian, The Daily Beast, The National Interest, Lawfare, PBS NewsHour, VICE, Quartz, The National, Al-Jazeera English, +972 Magazine and World Politics Review, among others.

Omar is currently a Fellow at the Middle East Council on Global Affairs and a Nonresident Fellow at the Baker Institute for Public Policy at Rice University. He is also the Editorial Director of Afkār, a publication of insights and analysis on current events in the Middle East and North Africa. Between 2019 and 2021, Omar was a Visiting Fellow at the Brookings Institution’s Doha Center. Prior to that, he was a research analyst at the Arab Gulf States Institute in Washington focusing on the political economy of the Gulf region.

Before working on policy analysis, Omar was a journalist for several years based in the U.S. and the Middle East. He has reported from Washington, New York, Israel-Palestine, Egypt, Jordan and the United Arab Emirates, and covered the politics and energy economies of both regions. Omar holds a Master’s degree from Columbia University and a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia. He is a frequent speaker at universities, conferences, on expert panels, and in the media.
